With over 8700 lakes and 3000 km of streaming water in Arjeplog, even the most eager fisherman has only been able to scrach a bit on the surface during a season, it also shows the loyal visitors who come year after year to try their luck in new water. Trolling has come strong and the Open Lapland Championship is part of the competition in SM (Swedish Championship in Trolling) 2020 and is a bit of a peoples event with fishermen and visitors from near and far. Racksund Fishing Festival is also very popular with different fishing classes and with great prices to the winning participants. Pike fishing has also skyrocketed in recent years with more and more foreign guests coming to try their fishing luck and experience our stunning clean nature and to experience fishing under the midnight sun.
Trout fishing is undoubtedly what attracts most people to visit the Arjeplog streams, quite fantastic that so small streams can offer so big trout especially during the autumn fishing when the darkness begins to fall. There is nothing that makes the adrenaline flow like when fishing for a while and then put on a small spinner to see if you can catch a grayling and at the first throw it happens!
The reel whistles and the trout pulls downstream hard and jumps high a few times, line on the reel is almost all out even though the brake is on hard and my fishing buddy bursts out what the h-ll is that? Unfortunately, there was no happy ending this time as in the fairy tales. The "BIG ONE" scraped off the line a few meters from the shore against bottom gravel and stones, despite this it is a nice memory when preparing for 2020.
After seeing the grayling spawn in May, we had great expectations of fishing for the premiere in the Arjeplog streams, already during the first two weeks of fishing we had landed many nice graylings between 47 and 55cm. The grayling is a great sport fish with light equipment either you are fishing with fly or spin, UL equipment and homemade crankbaits of varying sizes added a little extra spice to the fishing for our own part.
Although we did not focus on fishing for pike, we managed to land some really nice ones in Uddjaure in 2019. For the season 2020 there will be more time spent for pike fishing for our part too, the weight behind a larger fighting pike has given added taste to try to lure a bigger one to take the bait.

Which of us does not have our first fishing memories from perch fishing in the nearest lake or pond and has been the gateway to sport fishing interest? The perch is a real fighter on light gears when it comes up a little in size, angling or cheap jig rod is good enough for perch fishing does not make things worse. According to many, smoked or butter fried perch is among the best that can be found on a dining table and I have to agree with that.
Thank for the visit and welcome to beautiful Arjeplog in Swedish Lapland during 2020!
